Assistant head coach and defensive co-ordinator appointed

We would like to officially announce that Sam Kendall has joined the coaching ranks at the Jets.

Sam will take up position as Colin Branaghs second in command and defensive co-ordinator.

For the past 5 years Sam has been playing but more importantly coaching at various levels within the Swindon Storm organisation, overseeing the youth team development from an inter-club flag team to a fully fledged contact team as well Head Coaching the Junior U21 team during its time in the BACL (Bristol Academy Community League).

Sam has worked in producing school taster sessions to youth aged players and below. This in turn aided Sam help set the foundations for an Oxford Saints youth team, which is still currently in development and continuing to grow.

Last year turned out to be the final year for Sam at Swindon Storm where he was the Special Teams and New Player Development Co-Ordinator, this went on to be one of their most successful season to date.

Having moved back to the Midlands he wasted no time in getting into coaching by joining the coaching ranks of Warwick Wolves University Team becoming their WR and special teams co-ordinator.

We asked Sam about this move:

Having known Colin from his season with the Storm, I approached him about coming over to the team and starting the next chapter in my coaching career as his number two. I’m really looking forward to the new challenges that I will be faced with and setting new goals for the team to aim for.

This is the start of something new and exciting season at Jets.

Coach Colin was full of praise with this a stated:

Following my promotion to head coach I have moved quickly to appoint additional coaching staff and it was important that I got a coach who I have complete trust in and knows the system we introduced on defence last season.

So it’s with great pleasure that Sam Kendall will be joining the Jets as my number two he will be assistant head coach and defence co-ordinator. Sam comes to the Jets from Swindon Storm who he excelled both as a player and a young up and coming coach, I expect great things from Sam and looking forward to working with him again.

This is an exciting time for the Coventry Jets with foundations from last year ready to be built on with two enthusiastic Coaches ready to #TAKEFLIGHT we welcome the 2018 season.
